Microsoft cloud strength fuels first quarter financial results

Microsoft Corp. has recently announced its results for the quarter ended 20 September, 2020 with revenue of $ 37.2 billion (up 12% compared to the same period last year), operating income of $15.0 billion (up 25%) and earnings per share of $ 1.82 (up 32%). All results outperforming analyst expectations. Net income rose 30% compared to the same quarter last year, reaching $ 13.9 billion.

Azure revenue grew 48%, while cloud services and server products increased 22% overall. In the previous quarter, Azure revenue grew 47% on 17% growth overall in that segment.

Despite COVID-19, the revenue from the Dynamics ERP and CRM products and cloud services increased 19%, mostly driven by Dynamics 365 cloud revenue growth of 38%. While the revenue for the broader Productivity and Business Processes segment was $ 12.3 billion and increased by 11%. Last quarter, Dynamics revenue overall increased by 13%, with Dynamics 365 revenue growth of 38%.
