Beta Marine designs, manufactures, and markets diesel marine propulsion engines and marine generating sets. Based in Gloucester, the company is a major equipment supplier to the international yacht, workboat, and canal boat markets. Since 1987, Beta Marine has supplied over 25,000 diesels and with a turnover of £8m this profitable company continues to grow.

With an international sales and service network, reliable communications are a critical factor in providing a highly responsive service. Beta Marine’s own workforce, is increasingly mobile and requires 24/7 access to email from a range of devices and locations, on and off site.

Beta Marine looked to Xperience – a company with whom they had worked successfully with for ten years, for an up to date solution that would support their continued business growth.

The Challenge

The company’s existing internet and email arrangements weren’t providing the basic infrastructure necessary to meet their customer and staff requirements. The workforce were becoming increasingly mobile and required 24/7 access to email from a range of devices and locations – on and off site.

The ADSL internet connection, POP 3 email and NetPilot internet security was an unreliable and ineffective email system, with no functionality for email and calendar collaboration necessary for a growing business.

The Solution

Xperience recommended that Beta Marine should migrate to Microsoft Office 365.  This would integrate all the familiar Microsoft Office desktop applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as business email, shared calendars, document sharing software and Skype for Business.

Microsoft Office 365 is a Cloud based solution, so enabled emails to be backed up and stored at world-class data centres with additional backup and premier disaster recovery.

Results

Beta Marine pays a small monthly charge for each user and can add users whenever they want. As there are no upfront infrastructure costs or expensive licences to buy, this means that Beta Marine now has access to the very latest enterprise-grade IT, which is always updated to the latest features. Microsoft Office 365 enabled Beta Marine’s staff to work more flexibly, accessing all their communications at any time, from anywhere, via any device.

All software is automatically updated to include the latest features, with the very latest data security, including always up to date virus and spam protection. Microsoft Office 365 has facilitated an improvement in responsiveness and overall customer service. Staff can now work remotely, all email information is accessible and up to date, and management now has confidence that all vital email data is backed-up and stored securely.
