Conor Flanagan, our Managed Systems Engineer, has kindly agreed to share his career journey at Xperience and his perspective on the company since he started working with us.

The Start of Conor’s Career Journey with Xperience. What did your Graduate role involve?

I joined Xperience in August 2012 as Placement Student from university. My role at the time was to provide basic triage of general IT issues, relating to Hardware, Microsoft Exchange, Backups, Network Connectivity etc.

What support and mentoring was offered to you as a recent Graduate?

In the early days, I was mentored by different engineers and given both support desk and onsite training. As a university student, I found the mentoring to be very beneficial as I was putting into practice what I had previously studied.

What does your role involve now?

After my placement year, I returned to complete the final year of my degree. When graduating, I returned as a permanent full-time employee at Xperience, as a Service Desk Technician, working as part of a wider engineering team to provide Level 1 support to our clients and colleagues in relation to Infrastructure IT and Cloud Services. With technology quickly progressing and the business growing, I improved my skillset and started learning, supporting and implementing new solutions. Products I work with on a daily basis include Microsoft 365, Windows, Veeam, Sophos, Proofpoint and Cisco. I progressed in my role and was promoted to the Managed Services Engineer role (previously titled Systems Engineer). I now provide Level 2 support for our clients and colleagues in the same area.

Benefits of working at Xperience

The best thing about Xperience is my fellow colleagues. Our engineering team is supportive of one another, and we also get along socially. A few years ago, Xperience celebrated our 50th anniversary in business. To commemorate the year, we fundraised and took part in many fun activities, such as Marathons, Tough Mudder and a Boat Race. It was fun to take part and celebrate these with colleagues throughout the group. I look forward to these activities returning as we exit the pandemic.

Why would you recommend Xperience as a great place to work?

Colleagues are very friendly and supportive of one another. We also have the opportunity to get involved in social activities throughout the year.
